Google Pagerank October 2009
Google finally update Pagerank. The time and date varies slightly depending on where in the world you live, but October 29th / 30th. Some would say this Pagerank update was slightly overdue. Google does not really follow a specific time line when updating Pagerank, but many assume a 3 month average.
Once we start to near the 3 month time frame there tends to be new posts at many popular forum resource sites.
So if you missed or didn't hear about the update, you might want to take a peek at your site and see if you have any pagerank changes.
Now that Google has updated Pagerank we shouldn't need to ask about it for sometime yet. Wait...I can already hear the questions rolling in "When is the next pagerank update," "When was the last update," "When do you think the next update will be"?
This goes on and on, over and over at some popular sites. If nothing else I guess it gives some forums something to ramble on about!
Google Pagerank Updating Soon
Well here we are once again anticipating the next Google Pagerank Update, which is leaning towards overdue. Not that there is a set schedule, but we assume generally 3 month intervals. Since it has been a little over 4 months now, the SEO world is patiently waiting for an update. There are many discussions and topics in the popular forums sites lately. You never really know for certain when Google will flip the switch and update the Pagerank. Nobody really knows for sure what the process involves. Whether Google needs a specific time to crawl the entire internet world. If there is some huge database that is quietly being processed on the side in the background, or something else. Some claim that Google does update Pagerank daily that some employees have access to, but nobody really knows for certain. It's one big secret and a virtual mystery.
I am hopeful that I might see a little bump or increase in my main site that I spend more time on, rather than here. I am not really counting on it as I didn't get to spend as much time with it as I would have liked, but you never know. Fingers crossed!
Google Caffeine & Pagerank Update
Not sure if anyone has heard about the new Google Search they are testing. It has been labeled Google Caffeine by most popular blogs and forums. Where they came up with this or how they figured it out I'm not sure. You can test the new Google Caffeine Search and see what kind of results you get. It is much faster than the Google Search we currently have and use. It also returns many more results for the particular search term or keyword.
You can check it out or test it for yourself here:

Although there is no specific time frame that Google follows for updating Pagerank, they do tend to happen every 3-4 months on average. Currently it has been slightly over 4 months now since the last Google Pagerank update. Since it has been a little longer than normal now, I can't help wondering if it has something to do with Google Caffeine. The longest period of time that I am aware of that went by between Pagerank updates was 6 months. So I am expecting a new Pagerank update to happen any time now. Not that I am expecting this blog to change or increase. I really don't promote it, I just use it for rambling on for the most part. I have promoted some of my other sites, and it would be nice if they increased a little. Anyway I'll keep following this and waiting for the next update from the Big G!
My Efforts Pay Off
My quest for Google Pagerank has slowly paid off. I have seen my main site slowly increase in pagerank from a 0 to a 1 and now a 2. A couple of the internal pages were a pagerank 3, but I believe they are now 2's.
I spent countless hours researching and testing thoughts and ideas on how to increase pagerank. I followed a few sites tips and suggestions. They all seemed to have helped, but I can't help to wonder if I would have achieved this anyway.
I have come to the conclusion that it is a never ending process that involves a lot of time and effort for quick results. By quick I mean 3-6 months.
I have scaled back my quest for pagerank because I can't devote all my free time to this, I have other things to work on.
At any rate getting a pagerank 1 and 2 is relatively easy I would say, but 3-4 and above will take more time and effort as it starts to get tougher after this.
I am hoping to top out at a 3 or 4 and I will be content with that.
My Quest for More (PR) Page Rank Continues
Things are progressing nicely with the Page Rank Experiment. It is a little time consuming to make things happen, but I am fairly content after the next update I will see an increase in my page rank.
I have also seen a fairly significant increase in traffic that I can only attribute to the efforts of this.
Yahoo seems to like me very well now too. MSN is another story though. One day it has me with a considerable amount of indexed links, and the next day only a fraction of the number. I don't know if I will ever get MSN figured out. I will concentrate on Google and Yahoo for the time given that they seem to be far more popular and important anyway. Once I master them, I will see what I can do at MSN.
I think the next Google Page Rank happens sometime near the end of Decemeber. I really don't want to say what I have done until the new Page Rank update happens to verify my efforts have been successful.
If they seem to be successful and I am happy with what Google Reflects I will think about posting my results here.
Until then I will continue on my quest, and keep my fingers crossed!!
Google Page Rank Experiment
I am currently testing and experimenting with Google Page Ranks. I have several different domains I am testing different ideas and theories on each. As far as I am aware of Google's next Page Rank update will be the end of December. Since Google does not clearly publish all this information I am hoping that the next update will be based on this quarter.
I will continue my quest for higher ranks, and post any positive results I conclude here after the next Google Page Rank updates.
How to get in Google Fast
I was asked by several at a forum I am fairly active in how to get into Google and the other popular search engines. Many of the members were having difficulty getting their sites indexed for some reason.
So I decided to create a simple .html site for the heck of it to see how fast I could get google to find it and index it.
Around 10:00 PM October 23, 2008
I uploaded all the .html files which was a total of 22 pages or so. They were created a few days before this. So I am not including the time to make them.
Around 10:30 PM October 23, 2008 I used an online sitemap creator to submit a sitemap.xml to search engines.
Around 10:45 PM October 23, 2008 I submitted my sitemap.xml to google, yahoo, and msn which I already have accounts at.
I go to bed and leave it at that for now.
The next day October 24, 2008
Around 4:00 PM October 24, 2008 I submit a link to digg, delicious, and several other popular social bookmarking sites.
By 5:00 PM October 24, 2008 I already see my post showing up for digg searching for the keyword/tags I used to submit to digg.
Around 8:00 PM October 24, 2008 I submit it to some directory sites using an automated free program, not sure if this is a good idea but I will try.
Around 10:00 PM October 24, 2008 I search for some blogs, most of which are wordpress that have high google pr ranks of 3-7 range. I commented on some posts that allow me to include my url(link).
By 12:30 AM October 25, 2008 I can now find my site by doing a google search.
Not all links are showing up in a google search yet, and yahoo, and msn are not showing much activity yet but that certainly didn't take long.
It did take a little work to submit a few of the above mentioned.
Now I will continue checking google, yahoo, and msn for more results and update this with anything that might be useful.
1:30 AM October 25, 2008 This post is actually showing in google already. Holy cow that was fast too.
2:00 AM October 25, 2008 I found some blogs with google pr 3-7 that I commented in. Most were wordpress blogs which allow me to include my link back to my site. I used a free blog searching program that searches and tells what the current google pr is for the site and blog page. Handy tool and free. This helps get backlinks to the new site.
? October 27, 2008 I now see my link in Yahoo too. It isn't indexed for searching that well yet, but at least it's there. MSN still don't know the site exists even after updating my sitemap.xml and pinging them with it. I think MSN needs a new bot. Maybe this is one of the reasons they wanted to buy Yahoo!!
Google PageRanks and SEO
I spent the last several days reading up on Google PageRanks and SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. Most of the sites I visited seemed to have a different tip and idea. There didn't seem to be one specific or perfect answer.
From what I gather from Google itself is that if one site links to your site, you need to link back. Kind of connecting the two sites in a manner I guess. They also state that if a site links to your site that has a PageRank of 5 or 6 you will get more credit I guess I will call it, than if a bunch of pages link to your site with only a PageRank of 1. Nobody seems to know exactally how much credit this might be.
I also read someone made a statement that if you register your domain for an extended amount of time, Google takes this into consideration. It said that if you can register your domain for 5 or even 10 years your PageRank will increase more, as you are expected to be around longer. I really have no idea if this is true or not. It's a good thought, but it's hard to believe this would matter a lot.
So in the mean time I will be playing around with links to sites that have PageRanks of 5+ and see what happens when the new Ranks are updated in a little less than 3 months from now.
I am still playing around with the whole SEO thing. I will save this for a future post. As well as how to increase traffic and Alexa ranks. I am getting pretty good at this part, but still experimenting a bit.
